Cosmetic Plastic Surgery in South Korea

Last year, three million women had cosmetic procedures in South Korea. It is estimated that more than thirty percent of Korean women between ages twenty and fifty have undergone a plastic surgery enhancement. That number soars when looking at the group under age thirty, where some estimates indicate a precentage over fifty percent.

As in other affluent non-Asian countries where celebrities and even politicians often set the fashion standards, people of Korea have grown very comfortable with the concept of undergoing plastic surgery.

Many of the procedures they seek are very different from those most popular in the West.

Double eyelid surgery to create an upper eyelid crease and make the eye look bigger and augmentation rhinoplasty to build up the structure of the nose bear only slight resemblance to their Western counterparts.

Other popular cosmetic plastic surgery procedures performed commonly in Korea are all but unavailable outside of the Orient. Cheek, jaw, and calf reduction surgery have attracted the most attention.
